The obsession and commentary on pop culture & the celebrity world

I think I may wet my pants

figuratively, not literally.

So, there are a couple of must-view-every-morning-websites that I obviously check every morning, hence the wording of "must-view-every-morning-websites."

There's Perez for the celeb gossip and there are a number that I frequent in order to stay in the "know" on all good television. Of course, the latter is subjective, but I think that I and my fave bloggers have impecable taste. ;)

Anywho, I was perusing Ducky Does TV this morning & it brought me the most wonderous news via E!... so good that I think it may have made my week and it's only Monday. Weeeeee!!!!!

E! is reporting that Jason Bateman has confirmed that story.

Jason Bateman has just confirmed to me that the creative minds behind Arrested Development (Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard) have put the wheels in motion toward a major motion picture of the Fox TV comedy so many of us adore. I’m told by insiders that Jason and other Bluth family members have received calls from producers (Hurwitz and Howard) asking if they would be willing to shoot a movie.

“I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started,” Bateman says. “Any talk is targeting a poststrike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it’s a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed.”

Jeffrey Tambor also revealed on XM Radio’s the Ron and Fez Show that he has been approached by Ron Howard to see if he’s willing to do an Arrested film. (You can hear that interview below.)

For the record, both Jason and Jeffrey’s answers were: Hells yeah. And I hear from other sources that other castmembers were called and that everyone seems to be very much on board and excited by the prospect.

Insiders also tell me that while creator Mitch Hurwitz does not yet have a script, he has a good, solid understanding of what he’d like to do for the movie, and Universal is very much interested.

And so it seems that a few good—wait, no, outrageously amazing—things just might come out of this unfortunate writers’ strike, as the creative minds in this town have had time to pause, regroup and think about their dream projects.

Never short of surprises

I still wonder why I'm willing to devote three hours of my life every couple of months to watch award shows. They're usually long and somewhat boring, but still I tune in religiously. Maybe it's the glitz and glamour... or that I just don't want to miss out on talking about the high- and low-lights at the watercooler w/ the gals @ work. Either way, it's three-plus hours that I'll never get back.

The Emmys, as usual, gives out the "top" award for TV shows and its actors in various categories. & of course, 85 per cent of the time, I dont' agree w/ all the nominees. You know that the Emmys voters have excellent taste in television when the talent of Charlie Sheen and Two and a Half Men are up for Best Actor in a Comedy and Comedy Series year-in-and-year-out and smart show, such as Arrested Development and Veronica Mars are either cancelled or ignored altogether.

However, there were some surprises stemming from last night's Emmys... Ryan Seacrest wasn't as horrid as I thought he would be. Some of the jokes were a bit distasteful -- the writer should be fired -- but overall, he probably didn't do so bad considering that he really was more of an emcee than a host.

Other than winning Best Drama Series, The Sopranos were virtually shut out.

The least likely winner in the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama category, Katherine Hiegl, actually won. Really? Cute acceptance speech though. & she looked gorgeous.

James Spader... again?

& can I just say how over-hyped Ugly Betty is? Don't get me wrong, this is one of my "must watch" shows. I enjoy it, but I just don't get all the love for it. Did America *really* deserve the award? The voters obviously thought so.

& how AWESOME was it that Ricky Gervais won for Extras!? & how great was the fact that Steve Carell ran up there to reunite w/ Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart?

Unfortunately, I don't have a TV :(

Well, that's not the complete truth. I do have a TV, but it's still sitting in my parent's living room. I just don't see hte pnt in moving it to my condo if a) my place is a ginormous mess & b) I still need to get a TV bench, etc. W/ that said, I'm still incredibly behind in my television watching thanks to my two week trip out east... in April. Hell, I *JUST* watched the season series finale of Veronica Mars last night & man was it ever written w/ an open ending. Damn you CW for not renewing it... DAMN YOU! They just don't know what's good television when it hits them squarely on the forehead. *sigh*

The only positive thing about not having a TV is that there isn't much in terms of summer television other than my fave, So You Think You Can Dance and my guilty pleasure, Kyle XY, leaving me w/ the opp to catch up on movies that I've been wanting to see.

While it has been years since I've watched American or Cdn Idol, I am tempted to watch CI this year for one reason & one reason only... Dave Kerr. I've had a lil crush on him since he first appeared on Much's Video on Trial. I just want to squeeze him & take him home w/ me. ;)

The little show that could...

Could Little Mosque on the Prairie be Canada's next big export? Some ppl seem to think so, but only time will tell.

There have been few television shows that have made it big in the U.S. or even attracted this much media attn. There's The New Degrassi (which is def inferior to the original), but that's only on a kid's cable network in the U.S. Then there's Da Vinci's Inquest, but that's only in syndication and airs at ridiculous hours. However, doing extremely well in comparison to other syndicated shows.

I'd like to see CBC actually succeed at developing a new TV show. We seem to be great at producing news programming - whether it's actually news or mock-news - but just can't get anything else off the ground.

Hope the hype for the show continues - frig... even CNN has a story! Would love to catch it & see if it lives up to the hype, but I have no electricity @ home... again... for the third time in a week. DAMN YOU BC HYDRO!

Let me introduce you to...

some shows that you probably aren't watching *&* should be!

I've finally caught up on all my television watching after missing a full month from my travels in Asia & I've gotta say, this yr is probably one of the most satisfying television seasons I've experienced. & yes, I'm addicted to TV.

So, what are some of the best shows out there right now? Well, rather than using my brain power to come up w/ a list, I'll let Maureen Ryan from the Chicago Tribune do it as she gets paid to do so (can someone tell me how I can get a job like hers and/or Whitney's!?)

Maureen's recapped her top 10 shows of this yr, along w/ the top 10 runner ups.

The only ones I don't necessarily agree w/?

Deadwood, The Shield, The Wire & The Closer - mostly because I haven't seen these shows. But really - they're all cable shows, so htey must be good!

I hate spoilers...

but I like taking a break from work & reading blogs on celebrity gossip and bloggers' thoughts on some of my favourite show. I'm still a lil behind on some of the shows that I'm a frequent watcher of, due to mine and my bro's return to the country part way into the television season. So, w/ that in mind and the fact that I *hate* spoilers, reading blogs is increasingly difficult as I don't know what's going to happen on an ep that I haven't seen yet - as was the case when I was perusing TV filter.

What I didn't mind finding out was that they are eliminating the mystery-arcs for Veronica Mars... BBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! That's my whole issue w/ this season - apart from the fact that VM seems a smidge bitchier than before. The lack of a season long mystery arc has totally decreased the mystique of VM. OK, probably not the best way to describe it, but to put it simply, me no likey.

What I didn't want to find out? That the next arc is "Who killed Dean O'Dell." GRRR!

Too cute!

Can't recall the last time I watched an ep of Sesame Street... must have been back in the babysitting days, but came across this snippit on Give Me My Remote. A lil cheesy, but it's my b/f TR Knight. He's just too cute for words! ;)

Aren't their 15 minutes up yet?

Aren't ppl sick of Rob & Ambuh yet? Evidently not as the next season of TAR is going to be All Stars and they are rumoured to be one of the returning couples.

I'll admit - I'm kinda excited about it. I'd love to see Zach & Flo back (how I hate her, but I loved him), the clowns, the incestuous bro & sis, the uber-cute couple Kris & Jon, & maybe that Christian couple.

I'm back!

Not that any of you have missed me.

I guess I should have posted that I was leaving the country for a month, huh? Well, I did & now I'm back. It's amazing how much news you miss out on when you're in a different country. I honestly have no idea what went on in the world, apart from major, major news & more importantly, what was happening in the celebrity/pop culture world. I'm so out of the loop.

& while for some of you, September brings forth a new school year or the end of summer, for me, the most important thing (sadly) is television series season premieres. The worst part of my month away was missing ALL the show. & as addicted to TV as I am, it's going to take me forever & a day to catch up. The downfall is that I have to avoid all blogs & all water cooler chat at the office until I catch up & it's looking like that may not happen until X'mas! :(

*sigh* What a tragic life I lead! ;)

On the other hand, my trip was amazing. I should be getting my travel blog up soon. Some of you who had been getting my e-mail updates will get it via e-mail. For those who are interested in my travel blog, just send me an e-mail & I just may consider adding you to my list. ;)

Need to catch up on Veronica Mars...

& don't want to buy the DVDs? Well, if you live close to me, you can always borrow season 1 from me & if you know my brother, you can borrow season 2 from him in a couple of months time. However, VMars has now somewhat reached "syndication" in Canada. W Network will start airing the show Sept. 8. Too bad Media in Canada doesn't realize that it's actually Kristen Bell that stars in teh show, not Lauren. ;)

Are you watching VM?

& if the answer is no, why NOT!? By far, one of the best TV shows out there. I love it, critics love it, Joss whatever his last name is and created Buffy love is, so why doesn't mass America love it?

I strongly encourage you, hell, I'm urging you to give Veronica Mars a try. You'll fall in love w/ the dynamics of LoVe and if Teddy Dunn was still on the show, perhaps you'd like VD.

Is anyone else sad about this?

It's been a couple of years since I've last seen an ep, but it makes me sad that here is yet another phenomenal children's program that will not be around for the kids today.

The most popular kids program now is probably The Wiggles or something. No wonder kids are getting stupider by the day. Is Fred Penner even on TV anymore?

Oh... I've got my fingers crossed!!!!

Rumour has it that the Lost writers are so fed up w/ the behavious of a certain actor that they are dying to kill/write off the character. While I'm not a huge fan of reading spoilers, but I had a feeling that I knew who it was... I'm just hoping that it's true. While I might dislike the Jack character, I hate this character and actor even more...

GAWD... I hope this rumour turns out to be true!

Let's get ready to rumble!!!!

Was over at TV Filter and saw that East Coast/West Coast rap rivalry has been revitalized in the form of online video clips.

You must have been living under a rock if you haven't heard or seen the SNL Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia rap starring Andy Samberg & SNL's resident MC Chris Parnell.

In retaliation, the West coast team of Mark Feuerstein (of Caroline in the City fame... if you can call it fame) and Adam Stein has started a rap battle.

While not as catchy as the Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia rap, it is a funny piece of aural and visual pleasure. ;)

You sceam, I scream...

We all scream for Veronica Mars!

OK, so it doesn't quite rhyme, but damnit, the hiatus b/n the last episode and tonight's ep has been WAY too long.

Rob Thomas actually directs tonight's ep, "Donut Run." Clever title... that is if you remember that Lily's nickname for him was Donut... The Chicago Tribune talks to him about his experience directing for the first time. Heads up... there are spoilers in it, but Maureen Ryan does an excellent job of noting when there's a spoiler.

Read at your own risk. You have been warned.

Libellés :

The weirdest mergerpartnership...

I'm sure you've heard by now... UPN & WB will no longer be, effective fall season of 2006. Instead, open your arms out for CW!

So, when I first received the CP article about it, first thing that came to mind was, WTF? Rather than trying to save their floundering networks, the two networks, which are owned by CBS and Warner Brothers respectively, will join forces together to be the "5th" network. WEIRD... Slowly, as the day went by, more articles came out, more correspondance w/ my hermano about the subject took place & I started to get scared... Ok, "scared" isn't really the *right* word... Concerned?

Was I going to be able to get CW? Initial reports had the Seattle WB affiliate picking it up... which I don't get. Nor do I get the KTLA, the LA WB affiliate. After some investigation, Hermano found out through Wiki that it'll actually be picked up by Seattle's UPN affiliate... PHEW!

Then it was announced that they would have 30 hours of programming b/n existing UPN & WB shows. Which shows would be picked up? Obviously Gilmore Girls as it is the #1 ranked show on the WB and probably America's Next Top Model as I believe it's UPN's #1 ranked show. But what about all their other shows - in particular, Veronica Mars (*user sings* I'm watching you!!!!!!)? While I could care less about Smallville being renewed, I would like to see Supernatural back for a 2nd season. Sorta like X-Files-ish, which I'm sure the die hard X-Files fan would call blashphemy. Or as CityTV calls it... something or other, but w/ hot guys, which I can't really deny. Jensen Ackles *is* hot!

I spoke too soon...

Looks like there is a good possibility that VM may not be returning next year... I think it's time for me to boycott television. :\

Libellés :

The coming together...

of two of my favourite things. Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels.
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles. Oops, sorry, got carried away there w/ the Sound of Music.

So... two of my favourite TV things are Arrested Development and Veronica Mars. MSN's TV Filter reporters that both George Michael & Maeby will be making a spcl guest appearance on on VM!!!! OH - the excitement! & no, they won't be playing cousins. VM has the best guest stars & best story lines. This is a lil premature, but damnit, if that shows not back next yr...

Speaking of next yr... as Val & various other bloggers have reported, AD is most likely not going to be back on Fox next year. I'm still holding out that ABC or Showtime picks it up - although I do think AD on ABC is a weird combo. & while I'm at it... how stupid is it for Fox to pit the seriesseason finale against the Olympic OPENING ceremony? Yeah... we're not cancelling AD, say the Fox execs. *sigh* Even, I being a huge AD fan since day 1, will be watching the opening ceremonies. Anywho... TV Filter also put up some fantabs shots of the series finale on their blog. If you don't want spoilers, don't look, but you've gotta check out the way they framed the pic of William Hung!

UPN get's *N Sync

Gawd... I'm witty, eh? ;)

Anyway, what a long week it's been. There's been so much that I want to blog about, but I just don't have the time. Work's been C-c-c-c-c-RAZY!

Looks like *N Sync's not totally dead. While it still looks like the boyband won't be reuniting any time soon due to T-Lake's huge ego, two of them will be seen on a television near you. UPN is developing an "Odd Couple"-type show for Joey Fat-one & Lance "I wanna be an astranaut" Bass.

Put up your hand if you'd be willing to watch it.... *blogger reluctantly puts up her hand* What can I say? I'm either a sadist a teeny bopper @ heart.

Part two of my post - the TV noms for the Globes...

Series, Drama: Commander in Chief, ABC; Grey's Anatomy, ABC; Lost, ABC; Prison Break, Fox; Rome, HBO.
ed. note: While I do enjoy my Wentworth Miller fix every week, I do prefer my Dr. McDreamy fix more. *sigh* Patrick Dempsey... my crush on him goes WAY back to the day he played Ronnie Miller in Can't Buy Me Love! ;) Did anyone see the X'mas ep? Seriously, the FUNNIEST ep to date.

Can Cdns ever be original?

So... I've been MIA for the past couple of weeks, I know. My apologies to the 3 of you who are actually reading this blog. T35's server went down, work's been mighty crazy as one of our clients is launching a new technology to Canada (don't you love how vague I am in this blog... all in a day's work to remain somewhat anonymous. I don't want to be dooced or anything) and my weekends have been pretty packed w/ activities (which is definitely a rarity for me!). I'll post a lil sumpin, sumpin to brighten up your day, perhaps tonight or tomorrow night.

Anyway, back to the topic @ hand - aside from the DaVinci series and the original Degrassi, can our TV producers ever come up w/ anything new and creative? & really MUST we put more $ into Tyra Banks' pocket? Get ready for our own Cdn version of America's Next Top Model! *puke*
