No wonder they're pissed

Although I love the CHUM stations, they are definitely a company that gets mad easily when things don't go their way, even if the issue doesn't directly relate to them. For instance, from reading the Globe & Mail and National Post at work, there was article after article about CHUM opposing the CRTC's decision on satellite radio. It really didn't make any sense. They were involved in the same licence, which they also received, but then they had this big beef about the other two companies having hte licence too. Whatev.

So, yesterday, I received a media release from CTV announcing that htey were bring hte MTV brand back to Canada. MTV Canada was previously owned by Craig Network or other, but they went bankrupt and sold all their channels to CHUM, except for Toronto 1, which went to the parent company that owns the tabloidy Sun papers out east - but that's besides the pnt (really, I just wanted to show off my knowledge of the media to you. ;) ). I didn't really think much of CTV's announcement except for, "Why? No one's going to watch it," until I saw the release that CHUM put out afterwards. They were NOT happy, as one would imagine. Turns out, MTV was coming back on analog, rather than digital cable, which it was before. The plan is to replace TalkTV w/ MTV. So, CHUM had a valid pnt saying that it would be interesting to see if CTV would be able to fulfill the talk television licence that the CRTC originally gave them w/ the MTV brand.

However, according to a new article that appeared on CTV.ca - so much more is explained. Now that CTV is relaunching the MTV brand, Much loses their rights to MTV programming effective immediately. Now, I don't know if this means everything or just the awards shows... but if it's everything... I guess Much is going to havta come up w/ some new programming right away. Especially since 75% of their programming is MTV programming now. Perhaps this will force them to become a "MUSIC" channel again & actually play music videos. GASP! What a concept!

Tuesday and Wednesday nights = TV conondrum

I had started this post yesterday, but lost it. So might as well include my Wednesday night conondrum in the same post. <edit> The Tuesday recap was getting long, so I'll do Wed in another post.</edit>

As you may well be aware - I'm addicted to TV. Love it... LOVE it! Could not live w/out it... OK, that's a slight exageration, but you get the pnt.

So, my Tuesday night television watching has turned into quite the dilemna. The 8 p.m. slot is OK... there's really not much on that I feel the need to see. This past Tues., my dad tuned into Chief in Commander, the new Geena Davis show about a female president. As much as I love Donald Sutherland, can't say that i see this one lasting long. The premise of the show is a little extreme. The prez dies, so the Geena Davis, the VP is going to be named the new prez. However, there's an issue because there are others who say that she was only appointed as a stunt. Then she has to deal w/ the fact that she isn't going to name her husband her chief of staff (seriously, who the hell names their spouse as their chief of staff???) & of course, balance her life as the President and a mother of 3. Gag me w/ a spoon already!

9 p.m. on Tuesdays are turning out to be quite the issue. There's Amazing Race: Family Edition on CBS, My Name is Earl and The OFfice on NBC and Supernatural on CityTV.

Although it's gotten mixed reviews, I'm w/ EW, I really like Jensen Ackles or Jared Padalalalal on the show. REALLY! Although I'm finding it really odd to hear Jared's character call Jensen's character Dean - since Jared played Dean on Gilmore Girls. But since, no one else is watching it, I'll just d/l this one.

So, the real battle is between CBS & NBC's lineup. I love Jason Lee and the show is hilarious! I've been an avid fan of TAR since it came out, but I'm not totally digging the whole family spin on it. First off, they're not nuclear families - which isn't a HUGE deal, but really, is it fair to have a father and his three adult daughters competing against a mom, dad and two children. The youngest member of the show is 8 for gawdsakes! Not to mention, one of the best things about the show is the see the interrelationships b/n the teams - the fighting, the backstabbing, the conniving maneovres (sp?), etc. W/ kids on teh show, I don't see that happening. :\

This week, I opted for Earl and didn't watch the two hour premiere of TAR. But what about next week? I guess I'll havta wait & see if TAR does becomes the "main attraction" of water cooler conversation at work.

& finally, the 10 p.m. slot. I'm divided b/n Law & Order: SVU and Gilmore Girls. *sigh* What's a girl to do?

First to bite the dust

According to EW, Fox's Head Cases is the first to bite the dust for this yr's fall season. I watched the first ep & it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. Poor Adam Goldberg though... has he ever been in a show that last a season?

It didn't help that the show wasn't in the greatest the time slot & their numbers dropped by 50% during the 2nd ep. OUCH. Granted, it's not like Chris O'Donnell has talent oozing out of his pores...

Yays, nays & HUHs!?!

I love award shows. LOVE 'em, LOVE 'em, LOVE 'EM! Yes, they can be boring, but I will sit in front of the TV to watch the whole dang thing.

So, the Emmys were on last night and it is an annual festivity at my house. All that really means is that the whole family sits down to watch 'em together. Mind you, my mother will sit in the other room to watch it with earphones on. Don't ask. I was looking forward to Ellen being the host. Loved her a couple of years back & I love her show, so I was ready to get comfy and have a good time.

A good time was had by those who won the Emmys, a good time was not had by me. I don't know… it was just a bit too boring for me & it didn't help that the majority of my faves were screwed over. There could've been a bit more Ellen and although Katrina should be on the mind of everyone, it made for quite the somber evening.

So, here's my thought of last night's awards ceremony:

YAY for:
Felicity Huffman's dress - absolutely gorgeous!!! Love the colour, love the cut.
Felicity Huffman winning Best actress in a comedy! Take that Teri Hatcher! It was nice to she her complete and utter shock & sincere acceptance speech. VERY cool that she mentioned Sports Night too.
J-Brams - JJ Abrams won for best director for a drama - now if he could stop reinventing Alias every 5 episodes or so.
Mitch Hurowitz for best writing for a comedy - much deserved for a HILARIOUS episode.
Mitch's acceptance speech - really, why aren't there more people watching Arrested Development?
Kristen Bell's performance of Fame! Amazing! Singing, dancing, acting, is there anything this girl can't do?
Lost winning Best drama!
Amazing Race winning Best reality show.
S. Epatha Merkerson's acceptance speech for winning Best actress in a miniseries.
Seeing a clip of Hugh Jackman is some gold lamé pants. Sweet! ;)
Jennifer Garner for looking so cute & radiant. :)
Some of the quips that Ellen provided - Loved the North Korean People Choice Award comment. ;)

BOOOO for:
That opening number… what were they thinking!?!
Donald Trump & "Karen" from Will & Grace winning Emmy Idol, what up wid dat? & over Kristen Bell! :The voters who felt it necessary to give awards to the Everybody Loves Raymond show/cast due to sympathy and it being its last year
Arrested Development not winning best comedy. BEST sitcom on.
Star Jone's velvet dress. WTF?
Doris Roberts winning Best supporting actress in a comedy over Arrested Development's Jessica Walters!
An overly boring awards ceremony.

HUH!?! for:
Emmy Idol - what was the point of it?
Patricia Arquette winning Best actress in a drama!?! Wow… that sure was from left field.
Patricia Arquette's hair.

Oh sweet nectar...

It's series premiere season! Oh the sweet nectar part? I don't know, crack is my only excuse.

It looks like my Monday nights are shaping up pretty good. YEAH!

Fox is out of the gates first as it has started its season premiere already w/ some shows, such as Prison Break starring the dude that Mariah Carey leaves Eric Roberts at the alter for. It's one of EW's faves and so far, it's pretty good. It's a pretty crazy concept, but not crazy enough that you would think that it's incredibly fake. The downfall of the show? The segue's into the commercials. I'm sure they thought it was creative... but damn, is it ever cheesy!

Some of the other new shows appearing this yr includes Fox's Kitchen Confidential, Surface, Just Legal and How I Met Your Mother. Although the last one stars Doogie Howser, I can't see myself watching it on a regular basis. I'll prob download a couple of eps... Jason Segal (Nick Andopolis from one of my fave shows - Freaks and Geeks) is in it. Just Legal is a WB show & well... it's cool that it stars Cdn Jay Baruchel, but that's not enough to get me to watch it. Then there's Surface... Underwater creatures... oh, that's definitely enough to get me interested! >/sarcasm<

Kitchen Confidential is going to be my new Monday must-see show. Hello!?! Bradley Cooper!!!! Oh.. how I love... he ... I'ev got my fingers crossed that it's going to be a good show.

But Monday is going to be a Fox night in Y's house. We'll kick off the evening w/ little or not touching w/ Arrested Development, followed up w/ a lil bit of spiciness of Kitchen Confidential and round it up w/ some jail house rock of Prison Break.

Wow... I sure ended this post in a REALLY cheesy way. :\

Be part of the cure - donate to the Terry Fox Run

Unless you've been living in a cave for the last 6 mos, you should know that the Terry Fox Run is just around the corner. One week in fact - Sunday, Sept. 18. & if you don't know who Terry Fox is, I'm really hoping that you're going to tell me that you're an American!!! ;)

Terry was 18 yrs old when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma - a form of bone cancer which is often found in the joint of the knee. The night he was heading into surgery to have his right leg amputated above the knee, a former high school teacher dropped a mag off for him which had a story about an amputee who ran the Boston Marathon. It was this article and the children with cancer that he saw that invigorated him and motivated him to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. It was his dream to see that there be a cure for a cancer and not see children and others have to suffer at the hands of this horrific disease.

On April 12, 1980, Terry dipped his foot into the Atlantic Ocean and set off on his Marathon of Hope. After running a marathon - 23 miles - a day, for 143 days straight, the marathon came to end on Sept. 1, 1980, on the outskirts of Thunderbay, ON. It was discovered that he had relapsed and the cancer had spread to his lungs.

On June 28, 1981, Terry passed away, one month short of his 23rd b-day…

Since then, there have been an additional 23 Terry Fox Runs, numerous awards named after him, an HBO movie made about Terry, a CBC Life & Times series, numerous schools named after him, had his face on stamp and on the loonie and being voted to 2nd on CBC's The Greatest Canadian by Canadians. Tonight, CTV aired a new MOW called Terry, starring Shawn Ashmore.

Everyone has their own favourite charitable organization and this the Terry Fox Foundation is mine. Why? I went to school in Poco and from kindergarten until grade 7, we would have a Terry Fox assembly, sing the Terry Fox song that our music teacher wrote and run around the field. And of course, raise money for the foundation. I then went to the same junior high where Terry used to train for the Marathon of Hope and in grade 10, I did Encounters with Canada, where we stayed in the Terry Fox Canadian Youth Centre. I then finished high school @ Terry Fox Secondary and then went on to study CMNS at SFU - Terry's alma mater.

Yeah, there are plenty of other people who have had the same experiences as me, but why do I know so much about Terry Fox? I lived and breathed Terry for two summers as I was the Foundation's School & Spcl Events Coordinator and its Media and Public Relations Coordinator. & to put it simply - Terry Fox is my hero.

So… I've gone on about Terry for long enough. Remember this - 1 in 4 people will be diagnosed with cancer. 25 yrs ago, the possibility of surviving the disease was low. Today, thanks to cancer research, people diagnosed have a much better chance of being cured. So, on September 18, I urge you to participate in the Terry Fox Run. If you can't, feel free to pledge someone who will be doing it (like me! ;) & don't worry… most of you will be getting an e-mail from me VERY soon!!!) 25 yrs ago, Terry asked that every Canadian donate $1. That's not so hard, now is it?

Sing... sing a song!

Sing out loud. Sing out strong! Gawd... I miss the days when I used to watch Sesame Street! ;)

It's looking like the Emmys are going to be one singing and dancing spectacular! Ellen Degeneres is going to be back on the stage and I'm sure she'll be doing a lil jig or shaking her rump at least once during the awards how. But singing? That's usually reserved for the Grammys and Oscars.

It looks like there's gonna be some American Emmy Idol action on the Emmys this yr.

Kristen Bell (my current fave actress) will be singing the theme of Fame, William Shatner and an opera singer will do the Star Trek theme, Megan Mullally and Donald Trump are doing Green Acres (I'm more than a little scared of this one...) and Gary Dourdan and Macy Gray are going to be doing the Jeffersons theme.

Should be quite the show!
