Oh... the shock!

Well, I was talking to my brother on MSN last night & he sent me a link to a picture. I'm sure the reasoning behind his sending me the link was to provide a shock value & did it ever!

I KNOW! Yeah, Brit's skantily dressed, what else is new? More importantly... wtf is up w/ her dancer's hair!?! Does he not realize how retaaaded he looks??? Clearly not. *&* tighty whities? That's a no no in my mind. Blech.

But seriously, I'm not sure if I can be "shocked" by Brit's new wardrobe anymore. I've pretty much come to expect it. I think last yr I was a little more disturbed w/ the whole changing of the image. For instance, her "I'm a Slave for You" video disgusted me. Not really her wardrobe, but more her getting licked, her provocatism (is that a word?) & the fact that it seemed like she was trying too damn hard. & you can't forget that her core audience were still pre-pubescent teens & I had issues w/ Brit being "who she was" when she is a role model, whether she wants to be or not.

However, w/ the "In the Zone" album, she's remained consistent w/ her skanky ways, so I give her props for that... & the upside is that her audience now is much older, so I have less of a prob w/ her being a whore. I just wish that she was a better singer! If she didn't sing "Toxic" I would be an even bigger fan of the song than I am now & I love that song.

Ding Dong the retaaaad is gone!

I shouldn't be embarassed to say this, but oddly enough, I am. I am... an American Idol FANATIC. I watch this show religiously, and have been for all three seasons. Kelly Clarkson was my choice for the AI1, Clay Aiken was my choice for AI2 (don't even start my weird obsession w/ him) & right now, I'm still a little unsure who I want as the winner of AI3. I will say this for sure... am I ever glad that Matthew Rogers is gone! Sing it w/ me... "GONE! Baby, you're... GONE"

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure that Matt is a nice guy & all, but there was just something about him that has always irked me. Well, that & the fact that I didn't think he deserved to be in the top 12. Lisa Leuschner deserved to be there more than he did. I don't know if it's that he tried too hard (to be funny or goofy), but it just BUGGED the crap outta me. It just seemed unnatural to me for some reason. His performance of Amazed was horrendous. Ok... he probably is a better singer is. OK... he *IS* a better singer than me, but the 1st verse always sounds so wimpy, as if he's unsure of his talent. I don't know... The chorus is much stronger though.

2 down... 9 more to go! Who's next to go? If Camille doesn't get her act together, she will be saying Sayanara next week. *&* may I just say... thank GAWD that AI is no longer pre-empting 24. It's about time that show comes back.

Emotions run amok

Oh goodness gracious, GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you're a Vancouverite, you'll know what I'm talking about. Last night & today was just CRAZINESS in the world of sports.

Thought that I should give y'all a heads up @ this pnt... the rest of the post is definitely not going to flow. There's so much going through my head that I haven't actually organized anything in there yet. Thoughts are running left & right @ an amazing speed.

According to all media outlets, the Canucks' game vs. the Avalanche was to be the game of the yr--playoff calibre. Boy, were they ever WRONG! They couldn't be anymore wrong. I didn't get a chance to catch the whole game because I've gotta share the TV w/ my dad, but when I checked the score, it was already 6-2. WTF!?!

Long story short, I didn't even see the hit live, but was I ever shocked when I saw the highlights on Sportsnet w/ Don Taylor. Plain & simple... Bert sucker puched Moore & that definitely is NOT cool. What I saw on TV was just plain crazy. I honestly couldn't believe my eyes. I follow the Canucks (on somewhat of a superficial & surface manner) & even for Bert, that was a LOW move. I mean, everyone in Vancouver knows that he's the biggest guy on the team & it can hurt if he hits you etc. We all know that he has a bad temper & when he loses it, he makes stupid moves & gets penalties, but he has never done anything like that before.

& poor Steve Moore... all that blood on the ice & now we find out that he has a deep facial laceration, a concussion & 2 broken vertibraes. What a tragic conclusion to that game. 9-2. What else can I say except that the Canucks displayed extremely poor sportsmanship. There was an obscene amt of fighting even PRIOR to the Bert hit. Overall, it was just a digusting game.

Bert taunting Moore         Bert swings         Bert connects         Bert connects         Bert & Moore on the ice

Just look @ the progression! Crazy I tell you!

hOwever, apart from ranting about how disturbing these turn of events ended up being, I'm a little annoyed at how these events have been portrayed by the media. Ok, as a CMNS grad, I should know what the role of the media is & how it presents their stories, but I still can't help but be irked by this story.

I'm not huge on listening to talk radio, but because of this story, while driving home from the ASI Exchange I listened to NW & Team 1040. NW was just reporting the news & what was happening etc. On Team 1040, Taylor & Pratt were talking about the incident. Now, I've always been a fan of Don Taylor in the past. I enjoy his work. However, I had never been so disgusted by his work as I was yesterday. Granted, emotions were running high from everyone, me included. I just couldn't believe how narrow minded he was being. He stated his opinion as facts & both Taylor & Pratt pretty much accused Bert's supporters as needing to get their heads checked. Fucking open your mind up a little more! GAWD.

Look, I'm not saying that what Bert did wasn't wrong. Anyone in their right mind has to be able to see that the sucker punch was wrong, irresponsible & crossed the line. However, I cannot stand ppl using the word broken neck & premeditated. The media is using these words, which just makes everything seem much worse off than it is. Moore has 2 broken vertabrae. I don't wanna downplay the injuries, because they are incredibly serious, but this does not mean that Moore will be paralyzed. Of course there is a chance that his career has come to an end, but there's also the possibility that he will be @ training camp this summer. Premeditated. Ok, Bert's intention of sucker punching him or hitting him was obviously premeditated. He was chasing him around the ice prior to the incident. However, using premeditated makes it seem that Bert's intention from the beginning was to knock Moore down & seriously injure him. I doubt that. Bert is not an enforcer. this type of event is out of his nature.

You have to love how the media likes to grasp on to the negative sides of all stories & paints a picture that's not necessarily accurate for their audience.

I feel bad for Bert. I'm sure that not once did he think that the punch would lead to this kind of outcome. One thing that bugs me is that I can't tell if he pushed Moore down to the ice, or if he just fell on top of him because Moore collapsed upon impact. I'd like to think the latter... & it also doesn't help that the Avalanche players then jumped on top of Bert who was on top of Moore. That just doesn't help the matters.

It's unfortunate that things played out the way they did. I can guarantee you that media would not have jumped on top of this story as much if Moore just suffered a concussion or a broken arm/leg. It's because of all the blood & the broken vertebraes that the story has exploded into what it is. It's the 1st story for every single media outlet across teh country right now, whether it's the local news or CTV News @ 11 or The National on CBC.

Bert faces an NHL hearing tomorrow. I wish him all the luck. He deserves to be suspended for the rest of the season, there's no doubt in my mind. He was irresponsible & must take responsiblity for his actions, but I don't think he should get what McSorley got.

Blame yourself

I'm so sick of all these lawsuits against McDonalds. I'm not exactly a huge fan of the fast food outlet, seeing that I feel sick every time I eat there, but it's not like someone is holding me @ gunpnt, commanding me to eat their food. I just heard on CNN that McD's in the US is eliminating their Supersize fries etc, to streamline their menu & to cut back on the fatty foods. CNN even said that a 3rd party says that McD's is a lrg reason for the obesity problem in the US. No it's not. The biggest reason that obesity is a major prob is because ppl do not have frigging will power. You have a choice as to where you wanna eat. You can choose a salad bar or you can choose McD's. Then there's the argument that ppl don't have a choice because it's so cheap to eat there. I'll agree w/ the part when argued that McD's is cheap. It is. I eat there because it's cheap. But I don't make it a habit to eat there everyday. Hell, I don't even eat there once a week. You know what's even cheaper than eating @ McD's? MAKING YOUR OWN LUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!! I know! What a concept!

Some observations...

Just watching a lil bit of the telly & a couple of things came to me, so I thought that I'd come & blog.

I'm in love w/ Liv Tyler. Seriously. There's just something about her that I just admire & adore. I've been a fan since she was in the Aerosmith Crazy video. She's just absolutely beautiful, but not @ the same time. I know, that doesn't make much sense. But she's not one of those hot, gorgeous women, but she exudes a beauty about her. She's beautiful, but she's got the girl next door kinda look too. Yes, I know, I'm still not making any sense. It's just the whole pkg. She's got the breathy voice, but has this wonderful personality too. Gawd.. why can't I be her???

I have always been a fan of Julia Stiles acting also. I especially love her in 10 Things I Hate About You. Granted, it's a romantic comedy & Heath Ledger was in it... how could I not love it? However, I just saw Letterman interview her & she was an immense bore. As shallow as this may sound... I sorta have lost interest in her. Mostly because I thought that she had a personality, but it seems like it's her characters I like & not her.

For the last 2 mos, my bro & I have been laughing endlessly about Hidalgo. I'm sure it's a fine movie, but I just can't get over the fact that it's about a horse. Anywho, have you ever notice how much Viggo Mortensen resembles Ed Harris? No seriously... when my brother & I went to go see LoTR @ Silvercity, there was a huge poster hanging above our heads promoting Hidalgo. I seriously thought the movie starred Ed Harris... until we saw the trailer & it was announced that it was actually Viggo. Unbridled. Unbroken. Unbeaten. Can the tagline for that movie get any cheesier? Well... it seems like that the premiere can! Ok, I realize that this is a Disney movie & all, but seriously... did Viggo really need to make his arrival on his damn horse?

Vintage is the new mod look

Well, you know me... it's the day after a huge awards show, so I spent an hour this evening watching both Entertainment Tonight & Access Hollywood. I think I'm just a tad obsessed w/ the industry, or perhaps just the glitz & glam of Hollywood. Just a side note, I have found that I really don't like ET all that much anymore, & would prefer to watch Access Hollywood instead. Doesn't hurt tha Billy Bush is on that show & I enjoy him. Plus, I really hate Mary Hart & Bob Goen now. They're jsut too ditzy & fake for me. @ least Billy Bush makes me laugh... & he's not too hard on the eyes... ;)

Anywho, all the shows were featuring their best & worst dressed & mentioning that the big thing this yr was vintage. It's totally true & no one really messed it up. Everyone was just too damn gorgeous if you ask me. Kinda makes me sick. I'd comment on outfits, but I'm too lazy to fiddle w/ Photoshop right now. Maybe tomorrow. However, I will say that I didn't agree w/ all of Cojo's picks & pans this time around. For instance.. wasn't a big fan of Renée Zellweger's outfit. The front 1/2 looked fantabulous! But the back end... I just didn't dig that train. Especially since it was like a detached train or something.

Gawd... if I could only have the body & the $ to look 1/2 as gorgeous as dem actresses last night. The whole vintage idea does make me wanna get a vintage dress though. For what? I don't know, but I'm sure I'll be able to make up some occasion. =)
