Looking into my crystal ball...
& I can see one of the top 2 who will move on in Canadian Idol.
I meant to post all about this the other week when I initially got the media release about the top 32, but w/ things going as crazy as they were, I had absolutely NO time. No seriously... I was working long hours & I'm not even in the tech industry... wtf? ;)
Anyway, my prediction - without even seeing a single performance is that the old Moffatt fans will come out in droves and vote, vote, vote for Dave Moffatt to move on (unless he completely & utterly chokes).
You're probably thinking, The Moffatts, why does that sound so familiar? Well... think back... way back to the beginning of this century. There was a lil pop group from Victoria that consisted of triplets and an older brother - whom were all under the age of 19. They sang a lil song called, "Girl of my Dreams." That's right... it's all coming back to you now! The band broke up a couple of yrs back and now the non-identical twin of the triplet set, Dave is back in the limelight as one of the top 32 finalists of Cdn Idol.
You're probably wondering a couple of things:
#1: Y, why do you know so much about the Moffatts? Were you a fan or something?
Response: I'm addicted to the entertainment industry and make it my business to know everything - well, almost everything.& I am not ashamed to admit that I like pop music (however, I am ashamed to admit that actually own their first CD... it was pop! How could I not have liked their happy go lucky music!?!)
#2: If Dave was in a band, why is he allowed to compete?
Response: Good Q... wish I had a response. Obviously there, some loophole here that CTV never thought of. I mean, although we make fun of the Mofftatts and would never admit to liking them (unless you're as stupid as me), they were fairly well known outside of Canada. You don't believe me, do you? They actually did have quite a following in Europe and I do believe that htey had toured Europe quite extensively.
So here's my Q, if the lead singer of a international (mildly) popular band can audition a singing competition that is geared for those who are aspiring singers, how is that fair? I thought that the idea of Cdn Idol is to A) watch those who think they are "da shit" not sing a single note on key; and B) watch those who are seroiusly talented get a shot at the big times.
I never thought that the Idol franchise was to watch has-beens compete - let alone ppl who already had careers w/ another band.
CTV should probably look into fixing this loophole before Trevor from SoulDecision and Raina Maida from OLP audition next yr.
However, could you imagine if Justin Timberlake never pursued a solo career and auditioned for American Idol instead!?!
